Sun Stand Still
Listen, I know you’ve probably been telling yourself, “It’s too late.” It’s too late to switch careers. It’s too late to go after the job you truly love. It’s too late to start that business God’s been calling you to. It’s too late to open the preschool He’s been nudging you to begin. It’s too late to step into ministry. It’s too late to find a real, authentic, blessed relationship—the one God has designed for you. You’ve been telling yourself it’s too late for this, too late for that, too late to do X, Y, or Z. But let me tell you this: that’s absolutely wrong.
In scripture, there was a man named Joshua—you might’ve heard of him. God called Joshua to go into battle and promised him success. This story is in Joshua chapter 10. While facing his enemies, Joshua realized something: if he tried to fight all of them with the time he had left, it would soon get dark. He needed more time to achieve what God had called him to do. So, he got bold. He looked up to God and said, “Sun, stand still; moon, stand still.” And guess what? The sun and moon stood still, giving Joshua and all of Israel enough time to defeat their enemies.
Then there was Hezekiah. A prophet came to him and said, “Get your affairs in order—you’re about to die.” Hezekiah was told to make sure his life insurance papers were signed, the deed to the house was transferred to his children, and everything was set, because his time was coming to an end. But as the prophet was leaving, Hezekiah turned around and prayed to God. He said, “God, I know You didn’t bring me this far just to end my life early. There’s still work You have for me to do. If You would just grant me 15 more years, I promise I will walk diligently in that assignment.” The prophet hadn’t even left Hezekiah’s hallway before he turned back around and said, “God heard your prayer. He has granted you 15 more years.”
So, here’s my point: if you keep telling yourself, “It’s too late to start this, too late to do that, too late to walk in this calling,” I want you to change the conversation. I want you to get bold. Start declaring to the sun and the moon to stand still. Start asking God for more time, because here’s the thing—if God called you to do something, He hasn’t changed His mind. Just because you’ve been slow to respond doesn’t mean He’s changed the assignment. God is so eager for you to step into your calling that He’s willing to give you more time.
In fact, I truly believe this: if you start walking in what God has called you to do, you’ll be more successful in the next 12 months than you have been in the past 12 years.
I don’t know who needs to hear this or what you need to start, but I do know this: it’s time for you to step into it and ask God for more time. He’s ready to give it to you.
All right, I’m out of here. Love you guys—peace.
